Love What You Do! (Mornings With MC)

Every Wednesday morning, I am going to bring you a quick quote to inspire you for the week ahead, along with some short thoughts.. Today’s quote comes from the amazing Maya Angelou who was an American poet, singer and activist.

“You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you.” -- Maya Angelou

What a powerful quote! Love what you do. Life is too short to do anything else.

Previously I have written about Job, Career & Craft (https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/job-career-craft-matthew-cossens/). The craftsmen loves what they do. They find purpose, value and satisfaction in their craft. Do you love what you do?

Here are 5 quick ways you can begin to love what you do, reignite that passion or keep the fire burning:

1) Find Your Why – Why do you do what you do? I believe that making money is a by product of your success, not your why. When I think about my why, firstly I think about legacy. Legacy to me is planting seeds in a garden you may never see. Anyone I come into contact with through my role I want to leave a legacy for the better. Whether big or small I want to be able to leave a mark on a part of their journey – whether this be candidates, clients or my team. I will write a dedicated blog in the future about finding your why; in the workplace, for you at work and for you personally.

2) Connect Your Why Daily – Take the time daily to reconnect with your why, your goals and plan. This will help you love what you do.

3) Practice Gratitude – Take the time to practice gratitude.

4) Take Time To Reflect – I like to do this regularly, usually once per month

5) Chase Excellence & Learn Everyday – Go all in at work. Chase excellence! Recently I challenged my team to give me their best 30 days. Between this and learning everyday you will find your passion at work! If not perhaps it’s time to find a new role.

Do you love what you do? What keeps you passionate about what you do? Share your thoughts below.
