Today’s quote comes from Denzel Washington:
“At the end of the day it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished….It’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back”
I love this quote from Denzel. It came up as I was reflecting on the first half of the year. (I can’t believe it’s Christmas in 2 weeks!)
I considered this quote from 3 quick perspectives and would love to hear your perspectives as well.
1) Where is my focus?
Where has my focus been in the last 6 months, has it been solely on accomplishment? Hitting targets/goals? Or lifting others up?
Thankfully a lot of my goals revolve around lifting others up, whether that is my amazing team at Aurec and their continual growth as individuals, seeing our clients achieve success or candidates secure their next interesting move.
Additionally, I am inspired by seeing others achieve success! I’m blessed to get to fuel this by coaching/mentoring some amazing people in the corporate arena, from a fitness perspective (having recently qualified as a trainer) or in working on their mindset in my time outside of work.
I truly believe you can achieve all your goals if you help enough other people achieve theirs.
2) Who am I lifting up?
Who are those that I am lifting up and is my impact actually helping them grow? For me this comes back to previous posts where I have spoken about legacy. I want to make sure that my impact for others is positive and that I am lifting them up to in turn lift others. It also caused me to consider, how could I better lift those people up? How could I improve further to continue to serve?
This also got me thinking about who else could I be lifting up right now? How can I make a greater impact in 2020?
3) Who do I need to thank for lifting me up?
It’s a great time of year to call people, send them a card, a gift, or simply thank them and express gratitude for how they have helped you in your journey. Use some of your time in the next 2 weeks to thank someone who has had an impact in your life. Perhaps they have lifted your up, helped you find a spark, given you encouragement, helped you through a tough time or just been a constant support.
It feels great to thank people whether it be a big or small impact and you never know it may also plant the seed for them to do more in the future.
I’d love to finish here by challenging you to consider the quote by Denzel and how we can all serve each other better as we move into 2020!
